An Inch From Death - 4:48 P.M.

Today I witnessed a collision in front of the old Wonderland Road Operations Centre. A young girl on a motor bike was nearly crushed by an enormous dump truck, who was merging into her lane and didn’t see her. Since we were right behind the girl on the bike, I jumped out of the truck and ran over to her. She was covered in blood, stumbled over and grabbed me by the arms begging me to help her, to call her husband and her mother. Her arm was likely broken, and her whole left side was badly injured. Her forehead above her left eye was slashed open and blood was gushing down her face. By the time I walked away from her my arms were covered in blood. She was only wearing a leather jacket, so her jeans were ripped open at the knees from the crash. Because the dump truck driver didn’t see her and didn’t feel the collision, he kept driving and had to be tracked down by a man who also witnessed it.

While we were waiting for the ambulance and fire truck, Jocelyn saw other drivers on the opposite side of the road trying to look at the accident. One of the cars was a City truck that Chad was driving, and she pointed out that someone else was going to cause an accident, just trying to see the damage. Sure enough, thirty seconds later, we hear tires screeching and metal crashing. An off-duty paramedic was driving by and was trying to see if the girl was alright. He rear-ended another car because he wasn’t paying attention to the road. Four other cars were involved in the second crash.

The thing that scared me the most was that, had the girl not seen the dump truck, she would’ve been thrown underneath the wheels of the truck, and would have gotten crushed. She is extremely lucky to be alive.

Go hug your mom, dad, sister, brother, boyfriend, girlfriend, grandma, grandpa, son, daughter, and tell them you love them.
